With Thanksgiving and Black Friday behind us, it may seem like the holiday feasting is at an end, but then there are more holidays ahead (Christmas, Chanuka, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, etc.). For those of us fortunate enough to live in vegan-friendly areas, there are likely to be organized gatherings during the holiday season. I went to a vegan Thanksgiving dinner this year that was fantastic, but that didn’t really benefit my abs.
Thins brings me to a point that is actually relevant to shoes. Why not counter the damage you have done or that you may be exposed to in the coming weeks by buying a nice pair of walking or running shoes and walking around your neighborhood, or even inside a mall if it’s too cold where you live (malls are great, especially in the early morning hours when shoppers may not be as prevalent)?
The good thing about many athletic shoes is that the men’s shoes can often easily work for women too, since the designs are typically similar. I’ll start my recommendations off with just such a shoe. The Earth Rocket-K is available on planetshoes.com, which you can access through our homepage. This running shoe comes in a variety of colors and though the men’s could easily work for women, it is available in women’s sizes as well (with colors that may appeal to some women more). With a sleek design and an established brand, you can’t go wrong.
Next is the Keen Aventura, also available on planetshoes.com. If you’re doing heavy duty running or hiking, this shoe probably isn’t the one for you, but for light jogging and walking, this shoe is great. It has a unique, removable polyurethane and cork foot bed with a canvas cover. The casual style is also great for someone looking for comfort without the look of a traditional athletic shoe.
Finally we have the Spider shoe by Vegetarian Shoes, available through veganessentials.com. This shoe, made by a company based in the UK, is unique and trendy, but still provides the features one needs for physical activity. The green microsuede fabric forms a protective layer around the mesh body. With the superb traction on the sole, I can definitely see where this shoe got its name.
So instead of making excuses this winter about why not to get out and exercise, just get out there and do it – the only limiting factor is yourself.
