My Hemp Shake Brings All the Boys to the Yard

Hemp makes for quite a tasty treat in a salad, a non-dairy milk product, or gourmet treats like hemp tabouleh, but it’s also an excellent, durable material for clothing, shoes and bags. In its beginnings in the fashion world, hemp was a rather crude, rough material suitable only for rope, rugged shoes, and earthy jewelry, but now that we know how to use its full potential, hemp has become a more refined and elegant material that is ready to shine on runways worldwide.

With eco fashion becoming increasingly popular, organic materials are making their ways into mainstream stores, even at stores like Target and Wal-Mart. I’m certainly not being an advocate for either store, but spreading awareness does have to start somewhere. However, the availability of hemp products is not as prevalent. As I’m sure most already know, hemp cannot be grown in the U. S. and has to be imported (often from Canada), which automatically makes the cost higher. Costs can be lowered somewhat through the use of blends, such as organic cotton and hemp.

An example of an article of clothing that uses just such a blend is the Vinyasa Pant, available online at shareyoga.com. I originally found them at globalhempstore.com, but they don’t seem to be available on that site any longer and are only available in size large (beet color) on the Share Yoga site, so get them while you can at $29.99. They have a casual style great for the gym, yoga, or just lounging around the house. If you want comfort without losing your shape, then give these pants a try.

Next is a pair of men’s shoes called The Oxfords, available at Hemp Oasis. You’ll be sure to stand out in the crowd with these – everyone has Oxfords, but who can say theirs are made of hemp? Probably not many. They come in natural, obsidian, and carob colors, so you can buy one or all to fit the colors in your wardrobe.

Finally, we have a bag for the ladies – a tote that is not too big and not too small. It is appropriately called The Anything Tote and can also be found on Hemp Oasis. Though the image shows two colors, it is currently only available in the natural/yellow combination. If you’ve been looking for a purse that will hold more than a tube of lipstick and a compact mirror, then stop looking and check out Hemp Oasis.

Also, if you happen to live in/near Clearwater, Florida there is a store called Hyde Park Hemp that is going out of business. I got word from a friend about this, so you may be able to find some good deals in the next few weeks before they’re gone for good.

So put on Kelis and rock out in yoour hemp clothing of choice,
