It’s always encouraging to find more vegan shoe options pop up, even after doing numerous Google searches each week. This week is no exception. While trying to come up with a topic for this week’s blog, I came across a company called TOMS, which some of you may be familiar with already (though not to be confused with Tom’s of Maine).
TOMS Shoes, based in Santa Monica, California, started in 2006 and currently has stores located in the U. S., Canada, Ireland, the U. K., Turkey, South Korea, Japan, and Australia β not too shabby for a company that is just two years old. Their mission is to provide for those less fortunate, particularly in Argentina and South Africa. For each pair of shoes purchased, a pair is donated to a child in need, so not only do you get new shoes for yourself, but you can feel good knowing that by treating yourself, you probably just put a smile on a little kid’s face in the process.
Not all of TOMS shoes are vegan, but there are several vegan options, which are clearly labeled as such before you even view the product page. Don’t you love it when a company does the research for you and lets you know upfront the contents of an item?
The company’s signature shoe is appropriately called TOMS and is a basic flat, available in varying prints for both men and women. Most appear pretty gender-neutral and could easily be worn by both men and women, and are only $48 a pair. In addition, there is a wrap boot available for women (in both earth tones and vibrant hues) that just happens to fit in with the knee-high cuff boot fall trend. If you’re ready to show off your legs, accent your latest outfit, and support a worthwhile cause in the process, then $118 is all you need.
In addition to praiseworthy shoes, TOMS offers t-shirts, caps, and a bag. Purchases of t-shirts, like the shoes mentioned above, also spark shoe donations and the FEED bag promotes food and education for children who otherwise would likely be malnourished and undereducated. For $65, you get the bag and you feed and educate one child for a year β you really can’t go wrong with this, and in the process you get the word out to others – the bag speaks for itself.
So the next time you’re looking for a pair of casual shoes or personality-showing boots, check out TOMS at tomsshoes.com β what you’ll find is affordable, unique, and ethical shoes that keep giving back to our global community.
Until next time,
A Spunky, Soulful Vegan
