The Election is Over, but the Fun Begins Now!

After Tuesday’s big election, many released sighs of relief and screams of joy as Barack Obama was announced the President-elect, the forty-fourth of the United States. Obama followed with a very moving speech, which will likely remain in the minds and hearts of those who listened for years to come.

I’m not here to be a political reporter, but I will use Tuesday’s victory as a jumping point for this blog. I personally wanted to celebrate, whether it be with friends, making a more elaborate meal than usual, or simply enjoying a vegan chocolate bar. This thought prompted an idea for a blog – why not buy shoes to celebrate?

So, really, why not? Is there a pair of shoes you’ve been dying to have, but haven’t bought because they were too expensive or because they aren’t your usual style? Doing something different may help spark a change you want. It may be cliché to say that you are what you wear, but to an extent that is a valid statement. Clothing provides an easy way to express yourself. Adding some extra color to your wardrobe, a more embellished style, or even just a different texture can be a subtle way to show the inner flare you’re hiding from the rest of the world.

To help you out, I’ll make a few suggestions of shoes with some flare, a bit more personality than your average shoe on the market. To start off, you can’t go wrong with Natalie Portman’s shoes. When you mix couture with ethics, her designs are what you’ll get. The Pollack 2 comes in black, grey and yellow – I’d definitely recommend going with the mustard yellow, which is both reminiscent of fall leaves and adds some extra punch to what could easily be a dull, colorless fall wardrobe.

Next is another company that won’t let you down – Ragazzi Vegan Shoes. They offer a wide range of vegan footwear for both men and women. My choice this go round is a houndstooth print, peep-toe stiletto pump called Bowie. This shoe is a great example of taking a classic print and vamping it up a bit by just adding one simple element (a buckle in this case) and is available in both brown and black.

Finally, we have a more casual shoe that is sure to bring life to your outfit. Not only are they stylish and bright, but they look comfortable as well. Alternative Outfitters, yet another reliable company, sells a red plaid flat that will make you re-evaluate the potential of Mary Janes you thought went out of style multiple decades ago.

That’s all for now, so get out there, or onilne as the case may be, and buy yourself a pair of new shoes – shop around if you need to – don’t let money be an issue!

As a final note, I personally thank all those who got out and voted, no matter who you voted for.
