For many of you, shoes may be the last concern on your mind at the moment. The economy in the U. S., as well as other nations around the world, is not exactly soaring at the moment and this can cause many of us to re-evaluate how we are going to spend the money we have in the best possible way.
The good thing is that there are still options so that you can show your stylish flair and save at the same time, so this week I’m going to give some tips on how to dress as you wish for less.
First, I suggest going through your closets and getting rid of things that you haven’t worn in a long time – you can even make money off of these things and use the money to buy new things. Garage sales, Craig’s List and eBay are great ways to do this. Also, if you don’t want to part with the clothing, think of ways you can alter them to make them more suitable to your tastes/current trends.
Next, I’d recommend hitting local thrift stores, yard sales, and consignment shops. Most areas have many options when it comes to this and you can find great items at super-low prices. You may find some items that have some element you like, but others you don’t find so appealing. Use your imagination and think of ways that you can make it more appealing to you. If you don’t know how to sew, maybe use some of the money you’ll save to take a sewing class at a local craft store.
After hitting thrift stores, yard sales and such, why not check out the clearance racks at your favorite stores or just go to a discount clothing store altogether. In addition, check the newspaper and online for coupons you can use to save you money. You’d be surprised at the outfit you can put together for well under $50.
Next, put your outfits together in new ways so that you get more use out of a singular item. Layering is a great way to accomplish this and with the fall season in swing now, you have more opportunities to show off your layering skills. In addition to layering, change one or two parts of an outfit – wear a different pair of shoes, a different pair of pants, wear a skirt with the top you wore with jeans before, etc. Often, simply changing an outfit slightly will make it appear completely new to the observer.
So get out there, recycle, reuse, and reinvent your way to a frugal new wardrobe and until next week,
A Saucy, Soulful Vegan
